We aim to create a safe space for Māori second-language learners to boost their learning journey while deepening connections
About
We are an extended network of friends wanting to run a series of whānau rumaki hui over the next two years. These immersion-style hui are for Māori who are mid-career young professionals with intermediate conversational reo Māori skills. The majority of the attendees have completed at least one year of full-time immersion study and have committed to strengthening their language skills. Many of us have tamariki and have made the decision to raise them with te reo Māori as their first language.
We aim to create a safe space for Māori second-language learners to boost their learning journey while deepening connections with others who are also committed to revitalisation efforts at a whānau and hapori level. The nature and structure of these events has been informed by research on the “conditions necessary for learners to improve maximum language output.”
