The Whakapapa Project

About

The Whakapapa project is a community led initiative that aims to address integenerational trauma that exists in gang whānau. The project was born out of lived experience growing up as gang children, learning from the past to create better oppotunitites for many generations to come.

We strive to create a space where whānau can reconnect and unpack our life journeys, using our own experiences to drive change and support healing in response to the aspirations of gang whānau.

The project is delivered in wānanga/noho marae style every 6-8 weeks to keep whānau engaged and continuously learning. The goal of each wānanga is whanaungatanga - strengthening relationships and matauranga - providing opportunities for life skills, education and learning.

Our priorities are:

Whakapapa - Self-Awareness & Identity

Oranga- Health & Wellbeing

Haukainga - Safe & Secure Housing

Pukengatanga - Skills for Employment & Education

By supporting us, you are supporting a generational movement, providing oppotunities and paving a better path for generations to come.
