We've Partnered with ecologist Dr Mark Nicholson to encourage indigenous planting and conservation in local communities.
About
Mark Nicholson is the Director of Kenyan NGO, Plants for Life International, based at Brackenhurst Botanic Garden in Tigoni, where he has collected half of all the woody plant species (trees and shrubs) of Kenya. Mark is delighted to collaborate with our initiative, so we are keen to return and connect with Kakamega local communities. (We met him planting trees for him on World Earth day, June 2025.)
By delivering tree care and conservation workshops alongside expert partners we not only further our mutual impact goals, but we expand our own knowledge and will contribute to saving the biodiversity of Kenya's incredibly precious rainforest. This beautiful but last remnant of the Congo tropical rainforest belt has faced constant encroachment. It is also affected by previously uncontrolled spread of invasive species like Pink Guava trees. Mark and his team have been busy removing these tough colonisers that out-compete indigenous varieties.
We hope to do another screening and tree planting workshop as well as another tree planting initiave at Kakamega next year.
Your donations will help us mobilise communities, ensure we can purchase and plant the right variety of trees and accommodate our team and workshop leaders expenses. Community volunteers are also given catered food at our screenings and we collect their feedback.
