Ugandan Premiere and Local Community Screenings
Fiscal Host: All For Climate
We will host local screenings of The Rwenzori Rainmakers beginning with a Ugandan Premiere and seek costs to continue this work.
About
A New Narrative.
Stories about Africa often focus on crisis or give outside perspectives. Our award-winning story immerses viewers because the characters tell their own stories. We showcase Africans as communicators, innovators, restoration leaders and nature custodians.
We believe in the power of film to inspire change. We believe that when people see their peers taking climate action and are given the tools to participate, they are encouraged to act themselves. We are about solutions and successes.
Our screenings are solar powered thanks to Sunshine Cinema. We have many community events with partners in Uganda, and plan more for Kenya and beyond. If you’d like to host our film, please get in touch.
We begin our screenings at the Rwenzori Founders with a red carpet Premiere and food for our film participants, followed by the chance to join workshops and discussions. We will record our feedback. The Premiere is now fully funded and sponsored by Volcanoes Safaris.
Your donations will help make our events special for rural people who are rarely given an opportunity to see documentaries or watch television. Costs include marquees, catering, Q&A, monitoring and evaluation and more. We hope to provide 7 community screenings around the Rwenzori Mountain region. (Community screenings each cost US $2455.20 / EUROS 2,160.58 / UGX 9,177,193.87)
"I found the films to be deeply impactful, inspiring and moving. In fact I was so immersed in the community, the projects and the landscape that I didn't want to leave." - F Melvin
"A very local story, led by and with the community, with global implications, responding to global issues of climate change and biodiversity loss. You feel like you’ve spent time with the Rwenzori Rainmakers at the foundry and in the forest, in the community and the classroom. Some incredibly inspirational characters who tell their story in a very humble way." - Alison Merifield
