About
Trans people seeking quality surgical care travel to Madison from all over the Midwest. Due to the myriad disadvantages and social stigmas against trans folks, the people who come here for surgery often do so at great expense, with minimal personal belongings, and without a lot of their social supports-sometimes even by themselves. The stress of having a major surgery in a new place is more than enough without the added complexities of rides, meals, and not knowing anybody friendly in the city. We hope to help ease some of the stress on these individuals by scheduling ahead of their surgeries to provide some meals, support, and rides from people who have experienced these medical procedures and who are both physically and emotionally safe. We also have the tools and experience to provide small, hands-on classes on post-surgery care procedures so the patients and whoever they might have brought along can get familiar with the tools and knowledge before learning it from a nurse while still slightly anesthetized. Whenever necessary, we will be available to hold hands and see folks off from the pre-operative room for folks who come alone.
