Hello I am not sure how much or if I even qualify. I would like to describe a bit about who I am and my experiences. My name is Adoni (name to change - trying out names with friends / chosen family), 25 and born and raised in Cardiff. In 2019 I ran away from home and ended up not coming back home to my biological family. I stayed at Bristol alone and admitted to myself I was trans. I actually was placed on section in hospital because they were worried I was going to hurt myself because I was scared of what my biological family would think. After coming back from Glastonbury and escaping through substance abuse because I was so confused with my identity and who I was, I ended up being hospitalised for psychosis believing the voices that somebody was out to hurt me because I identified as non binary/ trans. I was scared that I would walk around and be hurt. After therapy from the NHS based about psychosis and depression, I ended up finding Cognitive Behaviour Therapy help with standard little things I need guidance with. Now though, I look back that CBT was nothing to do with my gender and I never have had a gender specialist talking about my mental health. I don’t know where to look regarding counselling. During lockdown I started looking at myself in the mirror and feeling body dysphoric. I look at myself in the mirror still and see somebody so masculine still. I don’t want to be masc/ feminine just to look at myself and feel more me. I struggle sometimes and say to myself that I am not trans enough because there are my sisters, brothers and siblings in the community that have it way harder. Wanting it for much longer since childhood and I’m very new and recent. I want to start transitioning and have booked in with my GP to hopefully get a referral which I’m scared just in case the doctor is transphobic and doesn’t give me the referral. I am applying for this grant to see if you could help me in some financial situation I am in. I am in debt by a lot of money in my overdraft/ credit card which is slowing me down and giving me lots of financial stress. I know that transitioning takes up to 3 years with the NHS sometimes even longer. I am wanting to start hormones asap. I would also love some help on any counselling about my transition. I use to talk to counsellors and now this stopped in the beginning of summer, I feel alone again. My email address is - [email protected] (any help will be at the upmost grateful for)

We accept claims for the cost of medications, food, transport to appointments, counselling and anything related to your transition. We also support trans, nonbinary, and intersex (TIN) folk with bills and living expenses. We do not currently accept claims for money for pet expenses.
If you are applying for the first time, please provide the first half of your postcode and a link to one of your social media accounts in the "additional invoice information" box. This is to verify your identity and prevent scammers from taking money from trans people.
Please also let us know how much you need (max. £60 per month) and what you need it for (eg. bills, food, debt etc etc) in the "additional invoice information" box.
We don't allow reoccurring grants set through open collective, we ask that you don't set your grant to reoccur automatically as it adds strain to our grant team and can create duplicate expenses.
