Here's what we've been up to in September!
Published on October 5, 2022 by Keira Evans

Welcome to spooky month! Here’s what we’ve been up to in September -

We received £2,229 from 101 financial contributors and we spent £3,240. Our current balance is £12,012. Thank you also to @rebeldragondez for their contribution this month and to @Ffion_M_Lewis for raising money for us for their birthday!

This month, we shared Tara’s fundraiser for top surgery. Tara is almost halfway to the goal, so please consider donating here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/taras-top-surgery.

On 3rd September, we attended @PrideinthePort and had a great time! Donations and badge sales totalled £54.61, thank you! If you attended, please consider leaving feedback for the organisers here: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=DQSIkWdsW0yxEjajBLZtrQAAAAAAAAAAAAMAAJxQZXZUNjQ2WU1YSkdQRUg4NUlKWVBDSDJQRU9BNy4u

During Manchester Pride, the National Trans Memorial was damaged, and neither cisgender queer people nor Manchester Pride took the care to protect it. @SparkleWeekend are working with trans-led organisations to replace it. @transtechtent is one of the groups helping fundraise, and are running a capture the flag event! You can find out more about that here:

On 19th September, we hosted our Cardiff meetup at @GR_Cardiff and had a great turnout! Thank you again to @NotAPhaseOrg for funding!

On 21st September, our co-founder Rudy was featured among a set of new podcasts available as part of The Wrap hosted by @IdiosyncraticXL. Listen to Rudy talk about the nature of Trans Aid Cymru as a mutual aid group and what that means for us here: https://www.queerhealth.info/thewrap/#wrapchats1

On 30th September, we were able to hold our monthly trans swimming event, again funded by @NotAPhaseOrg. Thank you to those of you who attended!

Looking for more opportunities to help? Here are some ideas:
ACORN (@ACORNCardiff) have a petition available to sign (https://acornuk.good.do/cymru/cardiff-renters-access-charter/) to urge Cardiff Council to hold private landlords accountable to their greed, racism, and ableism that continues to land trans, intersex, and nonbinary people in unsafe housing situations. This is especially important as we approach Winter and energy costs continue to rise. If you are struggling with costs, you have until 5PM on 28th February, 2023 to apply for funding from the Welsh Government fuel support scheme here: https://gov.wales/wales-fuel-support-scheme-2022-2023

As a reminder, the Iris Prize LGBTQ+ Film Festival @irisprize will be screening ‘Queens Cwm Rag’ directed by @LindsayWphotog on Tuesday 11th October from 7PM. Find more information here: https://irisprize.org/2022-opening-night/. Thank you again to the group of drag queens who marched up Snowdon to raise money for us!!

Looking for a job? @splo_down is hiring a Community Ambassador! Find more details here: https://twitter.com/splo_down/status/1573640902509318146

If you are looking for more resources, please check out our carrd (transwales.carrd.co)! You can also message us for a link to our Discord where we post details about our events!

Please join us on 22nd October from 12-5PM in Cathays Community Center for a super queer craft fair! We have a great mix of artists and will be doing some arts and crafts bits on the day!
