What we've been up to in June!
Published on July 2, 2021 by Keira Evans

Hope everyone had an amazing pride month! Can you believe it’s been a year since Trans Aid Cymru was founded?

We had a busy month working on our workshops and supporting trans folks throughout Wales! We raised an amazing £1,163 and spent £1,224! We had some fantastic donations including £57.00 from Swansea Feminist Book Club and £73.50 from Trans Life Drawing! Alessandro Ceccarelli also hosted a twitch stream fundraiser that raised over £500 for us and we’re so thankful! This has helped us cover a couple of emergency grants that have helped get folks out of housing and council tax debt. These kinds of financial problems can really hang over people and we’re so glad we’ve been able to help them out. We also have released our 10 monthly £25 grants and donated £50 to two different gofundme’s!

Our workshop series funded by METRO Charity are finishing up this month and it’s been so great! We held a healthy eating workshop this month and G(end)er Swap held an amazing workshop where they talked about ways of alleviating gender dysphoria! We have a sticker making workshop coming up on the 10th with special guests N3KO and West Queer Art! We also have a open mic happening on the 24th as well! Sign up for them here!

We also funded a Trans Trash Talk session where trans folks where able to talk freely about the transphobic atmosphere in the UK right now. We ended it on a really positive note, talking about trans joy and moments of euphoria! Trans Life Drawing is also hosting another session with Beck (they/them) so check that out on our Eventbrite!

If you’re in Cardiff and haven’t been in The Queer Emporium already, get yourself down there! They are in Morgan’s Arcade and are currently selling some charity badges that raise funds for us! They’ve been such huge supporters of us and we love all queer goodies they sell!

We’ve been in the press again! Two of our founders were in Wales Online talking about the importance of the Stonewall Uprising on the 52-year anniversary.

We also were in Cardiff Life Magazine’s Pride edition! You can check that out here!

And finally, Yan from The Queer Emporium spoke to DIVA Magazine about the shop and mentioned us!

Overall it’s been a busy time! As always we’re thankful for all our supporters and so happy to be able to help other trans folks out!
