Android Testing Devices
PROJECT
Part of: Unamentis
Fiscal Host: Open Source Europe
We need 2 fairly new Android phones for hands on testing of our Android client in a mobile setting.
About
Mobile Client Development: Android Device Requirements
One of the most important, and truly core, aspects of our project is the mobile client. We started with iOS as our MVP but very quickly decided we needed to work in parallel on both an Android client and a web client to fill in the gaps on any other mobile devices.
The Limitation of Simulators
While both iOS and Android platforms offer simulators that allow us to do quite a bit of testing, mainly from the standpoint of automated work and automated build testing, there's no replacement for being able to install the app on an actual mobile device, walk around with it, and verify its utility and functionality in the real world.
This is especially true for something that is voice-driven and must handle:
- Background noise
- Background operation (ensuring the app works seamlessly as long as it's the only active audio app)
Current Situation
Both my partner and I have iPhones, so iOS testing is easily covered. However, we have no Android devices for real-world testing.
Target Hardware
After researching what we need to accomplish, specifically regarding performance, latency, and features, we've determined that the Google Pixel 9 Pro is our target device. We'd like to acquire two units.
Acquisition Plan
We're going to put some effort into seeking donated used devices, but we're assuming we'll need to purchase them, either used or new. That's what this funding request is for.
