About

United Diversity Bridport and Sustainable Bridport present: MMMM! Monday Movie, Meal & Mingling

Inspiring documentaries, short films by local filmmakers, organic veg curries, hot and cold drinks.

An exciting new fortnightly film and food event for Bridport in the lovely White Room at the Chapel in the Garden (entry via Rax Lane).

Please note: unfortunately there will be no curries available this week and the Chapel kitchen is closed and our wonderful chef Fergus aka Vegie Vortex is away.

This week we'll be screening:

Shorts from around 6:30pm and then the main feature from around 7:00pm:

School Circles (1 hour 29 minutes)

School Circles is an independent documentary that explores the practice of democratic schools in the Netherlands. The film shows students, teachers and staff members coming together to dialogue, discuss proposals, mediate conflicts and make decisions about their school life.

These schools not only challenge the mainstream education, but also democracy as we know it. They put into practice Sociocracy, a method for collective organisation based on a systems perspective, in which the decisions are made by integrating all the voices through consent.

School Circles connects the theory of sociocracy to its practice within schools, taking us to new possibilities of organising ourselves and our communities.

"Our motivation to make this film came from our wish to build a humanizing and emancipatory school and society. We believe that sociocracy as a way of organising ourselves and making collective decisions has a great potential to distribute power, encourage open dialogue, co-creation and collaboration, equity and fairness, shared responsibility, sense of belonging, individual and collective fulfilment. We believe that these are essential values to our development as human beings and that sociocracy can play an important role in the development of a liberating education and learning communities." -- Producer-directors Charlie Shread and Marianne Osório

IMDB: 8.5/10

We normally (but not this time) also have:

Delicious organic vegetarian curries from Vegie Vortex (who also do the curries at Beach and Barnicott), plus hot and cold drinks.

Please note: our room hire costs £42/ week so if you're able to able to contribute more than the default ticket amount then please do so. Many thanks in advance. Together We Have Everything.
