Towards a Sustainable Future: Auroville 36 Years of Research (51 min) 2004

2004 film, directed by Basile Vignes, recounts the trials and successes with alternative ecological methods in Auroville.

Shows how a barren land (Auroville) can be turned into fertile land by means of renewable energies.

This documentary reviews 36 years of adventures in the discovery of sustainable technologies.

Since 1968, a small group of people from all over the world have worked to build Auroville, a township near Pondicherry on the east coast of southern India. The film shows how barren land can be turned into fertile woods through a slow process of reforestation using renewable energy sources.

Inspired by the vision of Sri Auribondo, the city has grown thanks to experimentation with alternative ecological methods that have transformed a barren land into a lush forest, as well as through the collaboration between the locals and the newcomers who shared their knowledge and learned from one another.

The film recounts the trials and successes in making alternative technologies work, proving that anything is possible with determination and perseverance.
