About
UN[PARA]LD (unparalleled) is a community-led, collective initiative challenging the outdoor clothing industry to design for disabled bodies.
While adaptive fashion is growing, specialist outdoor and alpine clothing is still largely designed for non-disabled bodies, leaving many disabled people excluded from outdoor activity. UN[PARA]LD responds by creating space for listening, research, and collaboration before solutions are defined.
“When I became disabled, I realised just how little the outdoor industry had considered people like me,” says Sainsbury. “Clothing that doesn’t work for your body stops you from taking part. You’re not choosing to opt out - you’re being excluded.”

Through funded focus groups, research sessions, and practical experimentation, we bring together disabled people, athletes, designers, makers, and repairers to explore how existing outdoor clothing can be adapted to work better for disabled bodies. What we learn is documented and shared openly through guides and resources, so others can build on what works rather than starting from scratch.
Hosted on Open Collective and developed in collaboration with Re-Action, UN[PARA]LD supports shared learning and collective action. Funding enables participation, accessibility, and the time needed to do this work properly - because access to the outdoors should not depend on who the industry has chosen to design for.
UN [ PARA ] LD is an open project and it needs more voices, experiences and skills.
We’re inviting the following:
- Disabled people who spend time outdoors (or want to)
- Athletes and outdoor enthusiasts
- Designers, makers and repairers
- Allies who care about access and inclusion
Please get in touch and join the community if you want to take part in focus groups, collaborative sessions and future project phases as we work together to challenge the status quo.
