ursuppe newsletter #5

Dear friends, partners and collaborators of ursuppe,
Thanks for reading, and for being a part of our commons.
Support

The best way to support ursuppe is the use, creation and sharing of content at ursuppe.dk, that you own and we preserve as a commons. We also encourage everyone to become a member/contributor on our Open Collective page. This is the place for more formal news, as well as donations. A financial contribution is not required to become a member, tho it is highly appreciated. Your mere subscription as a member/contributor is what means the most to show your support and can be one with the “Immaterial Soup Member” contribution. If you want to contribute to the future of ursuppe you can become a working member of the cooperative, please see the working groups.

Many things have happened since last time, but below is a few highlights.

Selected news

  • Public service to digital commons: Since the start of ursuppe we have been a worked-owned cooperative and an open commons organisation. Earlier we presented ourselves as a “public service” due to the belief that this was a term that the wider public in Denmark knew of. We have decided to move away from this as it is inaccurate in terms of what we are and what we do, and are now presenting ourselves as a digital commons.
  • Members: We have enrolled three new members into the cooperative. We are grateful for that ♥ We are on the lookout for more helping hands to balance our communal work - feel free to reach out to us.
  • Curatorial work: We have been invited to, and are planning, various activities of what can be considered curatorial work, creating spaces that examines art platforms and cultural production on the internet and beyond. A soft space not typically associated with software, challenging ruling mechanisms in the intersection between software and the arts. More info to follow.
  • General assembly: We are having our first general assembly 20th August this summer in the evening. Mark this date and reply to this email if you want to join. More info to follow.

Selected software news

  • Updated frontpage: A “news bar” with temporary messages, most recent pinboards, and a updated footer.
  • Catalog, locations map: Due to ursuppe being data-driven we are working on different levels of mapping out the eco-system of the smaller and artist-run scene in Denmark. We have recently published code that creates a map of all locations that have created content on our platform. We are planning to create a timeline-bar to created a sense of chronology.
  • Lowkey: critical coding club: Lowkey is again announced. We created a site on Codeberg pages that can be found here: http://lowkey.ursuppe.dk/ - join us!
  • Pixelfed etc.: It is still the plan to go to the fediverse. Due to the work load we are waiting to get more resources to help with social media, and also looking at cross-posting options before we can take on this work.
  • External backup: To ensure the preservation of our commons, we have setup an external backup server to ensure your events in archives will not get lost.
  • We strive to protect your data from theft/AI scrapers: We are starting with a disallow, but are working on more implementations to stop AI, such as Anubis

About

ursuppe is a digital commons for contemporary art in Denmark that amplifies and preserves events and archives as well as providing a pinboard. Built on an artist-run, anti-authoritarian and FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) ethos, we are organized as a platform cooperative. The users, collaborators and partners create and own the content that makes up ursuppe, which we preserve as a commons. Read more at ursuppe.dk.
