Wings Trust
Our vision is to improve lives and communities through sustainable small business.
About
Wings Trust was formed to be a conduit giving access to those wanting to educate and be an active participant in the world of small business.
Wings Trust collaborates closely with Rebel Business School Aotearoa (RBSA) to deliver scolarships to attend the various small business programes delivered across Aotearoa. The programmes are for all age, etnicity and gender and the programmes are inclusive, informative and experiential.
Importantly, in that collaboration Wings Trust will be looking to support business course delivery in dfferent parts of the country and often in regions where funding is difficult for local economic development agencies.
Our vision is fully aligned to that of the Rebel Business School.
To improve lives and communities through sustainable small business.
This vision supports two key objectives:
• To build economic growth in communities across Aotearoa New Zealand
• To enable individual and generational change through the pathway of small business
RBSA deliver their flagship 10-day, 20-workshop business building course. Delivered, in-person, online or a hybrid of both, they provide tools, knowledge and confidence to help people who want to start their own business get it going. It’s also a brilliant refresher opportunity for business owners ready to consider how they might adjust and continue to thrive. Our programme is immersive, interactive, and gets results. There are additional programmes for Rangatahi (5-days), a 5-day Business Sprint, the 2-Day intensive Business Plan Sprint.
What kind of stuff do attendees learn?
Their topics include:
• How to start a business with NO money
• How to feel more confident to get going
• The dark art of sales and marketing
• How to make a website for free
• Frog-eating: how to get things done
• The legal stuff – compliance
Who teaches it? How many people?
RBSA have experienced facilitators and mentors - all small business owners themselves - who deliver the course with enthusiasm and fun. Local guest speakers contribute and we typically see 30-50 attendees.
What happens to graduates?
RBSA have a community of over 1,400 course graduates who can access continuing support through their regular webinars; connecting through local ambassadors and follow-up workshops. RBSA also have tools and processes available to help graduates accelerate their business needs - not to mention an active graduate network. Some also meet requirements for their intensive business development Kōhanga programme. The evidence about the long-term impact of the different courses is revealed through RBSA's All Event and Longitudinal Study and economic data.
Who benefits?
• Graduates create or develop a business they are passionate about and have fun bringing it to life. For many, this is life-changing. They meet others on the same journey.
• Communities are positively impacted by small businesses through involvement and support; and
• Funding Partners through job creation, increased innovation and competition, and growth in local products and services. Funders are able to directly engage with the programme and participants and provide an opportunity to drive growth, collaboration and development in their region.
Why we work closly with Rebel Business School Aotearoa?
Our experience with RBSA has shown a different kind of impact - Their approach is to connect business Rebels to enhance and build on their Passion alongside Practicality and Confidence with Capability.
Another alignment to Wings Trust is the awareness and impact of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's). Ultimately both Wings Trust and RBSA aim to reduce inequalities by encouraging the growth of small and medium businesses in terms of creating employment, incomes and livelihood opportunities, with particular regard for the poor and marginalised groups. We are both driven to achieve sustainable businesses that positively impact economic growth that leads to thriving households and sustainable communities. To that end Wings Trust and RBSA advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and in particular:
• SDG 1: No Poverty
• SDG 2: Zero Hunger
• SDG 5: Gender Equality
• SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
• SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
• SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities
