About

A young girl approached a middle-aged woman hosting a table at a health fair in the girl's hometown.  The older woman said, "You know, ageism isn't just prejudiced against older adults.  It's also prejudiced against young people."  This resonated with the young girl.  "Can you tell me more about that?" she asked.  "Of course!" said the older woman.  And YAA (Youth Against Ageism) was born.
The older woman is Janet Wise, and the young girl is Zylea Larsen.  Zylea lives in Cloquet, MN; Janet is a resident of Duluth, MN.  Together, they are striving to eradicate age-related prejudices and harmful biases.  They aim to combat these biases through:
  • Addressing ageist policy and law to protect the dignity and human rights of everyone, everywhere
  • Providing educational activities that can transmit knowledge and skills, enhance empathy, and dispel ageist conceptions
  • Sponsoring intergenerational interventions that contribute to the mutual understanding and cooperation of different generations
