About
The medium 'claps' concept has become a very popular and effective way for indicating your appreciation of a blog post. I run my own blog, and wanted to have a similar system. After much searching I came to the conclusion that there wasn't already a solution out there - so I decided to build my own!
Applause button is the end result. It is a relatively simple custom element that faithfully reproduces the medium style 'clap' effect, with clap counts recorded to a serverless AWS back-end. Rather than keep this goodness all to myself I decided to share, allowing anyone to use this UI control, and my back-end, for counting claps.
This project has become quite popular, and I am now recording claps for > 100 websites. This comes at a cost! The purpose of this open collective is to cover my hosting bill, which is likely to be $500 this year.
