What is Trust?
It can be defined as the ability to predict an actor's future behavior - will they complete the project? Will they act in good faith, be an effective leader, act in alignment with the expressed goals?

Web3 offers to answer this question with financial incentive layers for non-trusted actors, but when funding a long term project and choosing a lead, most funders want to know something of the actor's reputation. Trust in a lead allows a project to move rapidly, but with enough eyes, it can be revoked just as rapidly if needed.

Reputation is earned, not bought
Peer reviewed tasks and proven results provide an equal playing ground to earn. This information is itself valuable.
Decentralized reputation alone opens up a huge swath of opportunities to replace centralized behemoths in areas from remote work, to purchasing goods, to making donations.

Open Trust Claims
is broadly a concept for linked, signed specific claims or assertions. Specifically, it would be useful for the following use cases:

Verifying the use of philanthropic donations

• Currently, recipients of philanthropy prepare reports for donors documenting their impact. However, these reports are prepared by the administrators of the recipient organization. Often the funds are used for salaries and other non-impactful uses, and the actual impact on the intended population is not always as positive as it could be.
• OpenTrustClaims enable a standard format of self-signed claims by each recipient, attesting to benefits they have received.
• The credibility of recipients is further established by a network of signed or verified claims, including for example github contributions, upwork ratings, ratings of work performed, attendance at events, etc.  Having a broad and rich network of small claims is helpful in evaluating credibility of specific assertions.  

Peer reviewed, work-weighted control over funds via a DAO or Benefit Corp

• Having a DAO or a token-governed benefit corporation be able to receive funds enables those directly involved on the ground to have voting power over the distribution.  A system of peer review including reviews of reviews by "anchor" credible individuals provides a way for individuals to earn governance through work over time, rather than giving it to powerful locals.
