About
What: Web hosting for bikecollectives.org and bikebike.org, and registration for bikecollectives.org. Web hosting covers
- a multilingual event management platform (bikebike.org)
- public archive of email conversations dating back to 2006
- wiki
- basic website (bikecollectives.org)
- password management system
Expenses: It would be awesome if a few people could make a tiny recurring donation, which will help show that this account is active until the next event.
If tech expenses remain the same, our actual annual expenses are locked in at $135 for web hosting, and another $11 for domain registration. We have paid forward the web hosting expenses until ~2029, and the bikecollectives.org domain is paid until 2033. (Godwin says he has the bikebike.org web registration covered indefinitely.)
So, with a recurring total of $150/year, we can stay ahead of keeping these resources available for everyone, indefinitely!
We are going to ask someone to ask at the next in-person Bike!Bike! in 2025 to ask the community at their concluding discussion to contribute this $150/year out of the event income. That way, instead of falling on a few generous people, the responsibility for maintaining these resources is spread more widely among members of the community, and more people can feel like they are able to participate in the ongoing support for these resources.
a huge thank you to everyone who makes this community possible
P.S. Please reach out if you would like to do volunteer tech maintenance. There's a never-ending list of bugs, fixes, and improvements!
