Hidden Voices
PROJECT
Fiscal Host: The Social Change Nest
Hidden Voices supports Camden residents in documenting Black history, especially Windrush stories, with training and assistance.
About
Hidden Voices is our flagship project developed in partnership with Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre (CLSAC), offering Camden residents the chance to explore and share the borough's Black history. This volunteer-driven initiative provides free training in oral history techniques, interviewing, and archival research, empowering participants to uncover and preserve stories, particularly those of Camden's Windrush generation.
Volunteers will capture interviews in audio, video, or podcast formats and collect physical materials such as photographs, registration certificates, and ephemera. These materials will be catalogued and made accessible at CLSAC, ensuring that Camden’s Black history is preserved for future generations.
Through Hidden Voices, volunteers gain valuable skills, including experience in oral history, community engagement, and digital archival work, while contributing to a lasting legacy of shared local history. Volunteers are reimbursed for travel and food expenses.
