About
The Solidarity fund for East Lake Tenants is to support and sustain East Lake Tenants and their organizational efforts.
Our mission is for East Lake Tenants to take their future into their own hands, independent of predatory management. We protect the rights of every resident and ensure that everyone has stable housing, decent living conditions, and a secure future.
Across the city and nation, tenants face worsening conditions, rising rents, mismanagement, and harassment. These are the social problems that force renters out of gentrifying neighborhoods like Bronzeville, Uptown, Pilsen, etc. they are the direct result of our system of private ownership of housing and a legal system built to protect property and ensure profit. No institutions exist to protect tenants or represent tenant interests. Only the power empowered tenants exercised through collective action will guarantee tenants’ right to control their living conditions.
Property management companies such as East Lake Management have failed to ensure their properties are safe, decent, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations even after negotiations, meetings, and public embarrassment, they continue to make a mockery of government-funded housing. East Lake tenants have suffered for decades but now say no more.
East Lake Tenants, an independent tenants organization for all tenants under East Lake Management, fights for tenants’ right to decent housing and greater tenant control over housing conditions.
