Friday, November 11, 2022, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (UTC-06:00)
Thank you for joining us in our OCF workshop, Introduction to Democratic Decision-Making, hosted by OCF Program Manager, Mike Strode. Resources and a recording of the workshop are available below, but they are no substitute...
Are you struggling to engage every voice and deepen participation within your collective? Or has the burden of sustaining operations prevented you from orienting new members to the practice of democratic decision-making?
Join our Program Manager, Mike Strode, for an introductory training on the values, practices, and processes for democratic decision-making which allow us to share power, autonomy, and accountability when collaborating within a group.
Unpacking democratic decision-making through Solidarity School is also part of the way OCF hopes to support public learning throughout the Open Collective ecosystem as we move towards a platform owned and governed by users and stakeholders through an Exit To Community.
Open Collective Foundation is committed to supporting its hosted collectives through Solidarity School with a range of democratic practices that can help them to expand their impact and deepen some of the values offered within our transparent budgeting infrastructure. Democratic decision-making is a cornerstone of cultivating strong collaborative infrastructure within our collectives and expanding participatory democracy by practicing it within our organizational relationships.
During this training, participants will:
Understand a basic definition of both general and democratic decision-making
Learn how democratic decision-making supports deeper group collaboration and cohesion
Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different forms of democratic decision-making including consensus and consent
Share strategies for implementing democratic decision-making in their collectives or organizations
