About

Celebrate the founding of Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in November 1837 by the dedicated visionary and educator Mary Lyon! At a time when women in the U.S. were not allowed to go about without wearing a bonnet or cap, our founder spent years doggedly fundraising — and raising eyebrows — in order to establish a financially sustainable institution of higher education for women. A most beloved tradition of Mount Holyoke College is to gather over ice cream and raise our spoons in honor of the bravery and vision of our founder.

The Mount Holyoke Clubs of the Peninsula and Northern California invite alums and prospective students to join us at our annual Founder’s Day Prospective Students Ice Cream Social. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, November 2nd, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Light refreshments and sweet treats will be served at the home of Beth S. '85 in Palo Alto. Address will be sent upon registration, so please check your ticket confirmation email for additional details!

At this event, prospective students will be able to learn about the school’s many traditions (including Founder's Day, this event's namesake), to connect with your potential future classmates, and to meet alums and other MHC community members. We look forward to seeing you and answering your questions. Come hungry for a few treats, which Mount Holyoke events are seldom without!

Alums are asked to bring a pint of their favorite ice cream to share. Recent alums and current students are particularly encouraged to attend and share perspectives on the college and favorite memories. If you know of any high school students in 10th through 12th grade who may be interested in applying to MHC, please invite them to this event!
