About

At a time when women in the U.S. were not allowed to go about without wearing a bonnet or cap, the dedicated visionary and educator Mary Lyon spent years doggedly fundraising — and raising eyebrows — in order to establish a financially sustainable institution of higher education for women. She would go on to establish Mount Holyoke Female Seminary (now Mount Holyoke College) in 1837. A most beloved MHC tradition is to gather over ice cream and raise our spoons in honor of the bravery and vision of our founder. The Mount Holyoke Clubs of the Peninsula and Northern California welcome prospective students and alums to join us at our annual Founder’s Day Prospective Students Ice Cream Social on Saturday, November 2nd, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.

At this event, prospective students will be able to learn about the school’s many traditions (such as Founder's Day, this event's namesake), to connect with potential future classmates, and meet alums and other MHC community members. We look forward to seeing you and answering your questions. Come hungry for a few treats, which Mount Holyoke events are seldom without!

Alums are asked to bring a pint of their favorite ice cream to share. Recent alums and current students are particularly encouraged to attend and share their perspectives and favorite memories.

Light refreshments and sweet treats will be served at the home of Beth S. '85 in Palo Alto. Address will be sent upon registration, so please check your ticket confirmation email for additional details!
