About
This group was born out of the Freecodecamp platform which is a supportive community of millions of coders. The platform is completely Open Source, free and accessible to everybody with the internet. Freecodecamp is a donor-supported tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (United States Federal Tax Identification Number: 82-0779546).
Their mission: to help people learn to code for free. They accomplish this by creating thousands of videos, articles, and interactive coding lessons - all freely available to the public. They also have thousands of Freecodecamp study groups around the world. As part of the initial steps of joining the platform you are redirected to the local study group of Freecodecamp on Facebook with this collective relating to the Perth, Western Australian study group.
At present we hold regular monthly meetups in the northern suburbs of Perth to give any aspiring programmers an opportunity to meet other like minded individuals, share their stories, ask for advice and collaborate on the Freecodecamp projects or any other projects they may be working on. This Collective was setup in an attempt to obtain support with sourcing suitable meetup facilities and sponsors from local businesses, governments and non-profit agencies.
Potenatial supporters may also be looking for a new website or improvements to their current website which we may be able to assist with. Most of the regular meetup attendees are aspiring to soon become professional developers and would welcome an opportunity to work on some real life projects that could assist local businesses at the same time.
We also have a group page on Meetup.com
