About
While PLC4X' first driver was the S7Comm driver, newer S7 devices use a new protocol with the unofficial name S7CommPlus. This allows using symbolic addresses, user defined datatypes and browsing the tags in a PLC.
Currently the only driver available is an experimental C# implementation written by Thomas Wiens, that also has very strict requirements for building it.
In this Goal we want to implement a new S7Comm Plus driver in PLC4J, that makes use of this protocol. Being (as far as we are aware) the first publicly available open-source S7Comm Plus driver.
Unfortunately building this driver requires purchasing of S7 PLC hardware as well as Engineering Software (TIA Portal Professional) which come at very high costs. This goal aims to reimburse these purchases.
Please note: The structure of this driver is a lot more complex, as it includes TLS 1.3 encryption, which makes the rewrite of the SPI project a mandatory prerequisite for this to be finished.
