About
Ghostlane is an open-source project building privacy-focused networking software for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and Linux.
The project consists of two closely related codebases:
Ghostlane is a free, cross-platform VPN client built with Kotlin Multiplatform. It supports standard tunneling protocols as well as olcRTC and is designed so users can bring their own server or VPN provider.
olcRTC is the open-source WebRTC tunneling engine behind Ghostlane. It can carry encrypted network traffic inside a WebRTC media session and is also available as a standalone engine for other applications and integrations.
Both projects are developed in public under the same GitHub organization:
Ghostlane is licensed under the MIT License. olcRTC is licensed under Apache License 2.0.
Why we are here
Maintaining cross-platform networking software requires ongoing development, testing, infrastructure, release engineering, security work, documentation and access to different devices and network environments.
Open Collective gives us a transparent way to fund this work while keeping Ghostlane and olcRTC free and open source.
Project funds may be used for:
- development and maintenance
- infrastructure and testing services
- CI/CD and release engineering
- hardware and devices used for testing
- security reviews and audits
- documentation and translations
- compensation for maintainers and contributors for completed open-source work
All project spending through Open Collective is intended to be transparent and connected to the development and maintenance of the open-source project.
Project independence
The Ghostlane mobile applications are currently published on the App Store and Google Play through Globvent Inc., which operates those developer accounts.
Globvent Inc. is separate from the Open Collective project treasury. It does not receive or control funds held for Ghostlane through Open Source Collective.
Our goal is simple: keep Ghostlane and olcRTC useful, open, independently auditable and sustainable for the long term.
