OpenCutList 7.0 Promises : Nesting Parts and Optimal cost
Published on May 19, 2025 by Boris Beaulant

We have just passed the 88% funding mark for the next version 7.0. Welcome to all new contributors!

Promise #5 : Nesting Parts and Optimal cost

Cutting Diagram is one of the most important features of OpenCutList. It's important to us that this feature evolves with your needs. Therefore, we're excited to make the promise to add nesting in the next release.

We will also take advantage of the complete rewriting of the algorithm to propose the calculation of the optimal cutting cost with several material sizes.

The following video gives you an overview:

Next Release: OpenCutList 6.4.0

In the meantime, thanks to the help of Nagy Zoltán, we have added Hungarian. A small team, including Hubert Przybylek, Florian Laniecki and Mateusz Szczepaniak made it possible to add Polish back (we will add missing credits as soon as possible).

OpenCutList 6.4.0 does not add any bug fixes or new features. No upgrade is necessary for users of other languages than Hungarian or Polish.

For the publication of this release we are waiting for Trimble to approve and sign the extension.

Happy woodworking!

Hello , I really like the extension and is very helpful, can you make for cabinet users who are using CNC nesting to use drill system ( like with Eccentric connector , or with Wooden dowels, оr screws, or maybe combination with two of this ), and you can make for each part QR code for drilling machine so can be very useful. This will really help the production process and everything.

Hello llco,

Thank you to appreciate OpenCutList.

Do you expect to drill holes with CNC or with a separate drill press ? And if separate, what kind of data or file does it require ?

Thank you to everyone who strives to bring widespread benefit to our planet. I am using the program you created very well. However, I would like to report the following issues:
1. When printing or exporting to PDF, empty areas appear black. This problem did not occur in the 6.0 series, but starting from the 7.0 series, the empty spaces are printed in black, causing excessive black ink consumption.
2. In the 6.0 series, I could enlarge the screen simply by selecting the icon, but in the 7.0 series, I need to right‑click and select “Maximize” to enlarge the screen.
I kindly ask you to review these matters. Thank you.

Hello Malco,

1. What PDF printer do you use? Can you share a capture ? Version 7.0 introduces a hatching pattern for empty spaces. Your PDF printer may not support this? Our tests have not revealed this type of problem.

2. This is a desired behavior. The OCL dialog box isn't designed to be resized using the Windows buttons.
But as its size is saved every time it's changed, you can set its size by dragging it, and it will reopen at that same size.
Else i recommend you to try to use the "Maximize/Minimize" button.
