spoke out is a new friendly and inclusive cycling collective to support, empower and encourage more girls, women and non-binary people to cycle in Derby.

Cycling is good for our physical and mental health, helps our environment, saves time and money and above all, it is just really fun!

We are really keen to maintain and build on the increase in cycling during the pandemic. However, our research shows that girls, women and non-binary people feel that their voices and needs are overlooked when it comes to cycling in Derby and they do not feel safe on our roads. We want to change that.  

We highlight gender specific issues and advocate for better cycling provision in the city through innovative and engaging campaigns.

Our Cycle Buddies scheme matches women who are new or returning to cycling with more confident female riders to build up knowledge and experience of riding on the roads in Derby, whilst hopefully making a new friend on the way too.

We collaborate 

We believe that we are stronger when we work together. We are always looking to partner with organisations, projects and people who share our values and vision for a city where more girls and women cycle.

Regardless of age, sexuality, ethnicity or ability, we welcome everyone who identifies as female and non-binary people who feel comfortable in spaces that centre the experience of women. We also encourage male allies to get involved and support what we do.
