Add The ‘Hacktoberfest’ Tag To Your Collective To Participate In Hacktoberfest
Published on October 4, 2021 by Benjamin Nickolls
This year Hacktoberfest is encouraging participants to support projects financially as well as with code. Add the ‘hacktoberfest’ tag to your Collective to feature on the Hacktoberfest site where users can give to your project.
The leaves are turning, the temperature is dropping and, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, things are feeling decidedly autumnal… which can mean only one thing. Hacktoberfest. Hacktoberfest is Digital Ocean’s annual campaign to support open source software, to contribute to projects that interest them, and for maintainers to encourage developers to become the next generation of open source leaders.
This year Hacktoberfest is broadening its definition of ‘contributing to open source’, encouraging participants to contribute to projects financially. The site includes a donation drive featuring participating projects on Open Collective and GitHub Sponsors:
How to participate
To participate all you need to do is add the ‘hacktoberfest’ label to your Collective. You’ll find it in the ‘info’ section of your collective’s settings:
Note that participation in this campaign does not include you in the contribution campaign. To do this you need to add the ‘hacktoberfest’ topic to your repository.
Already participating on GitHub?
If you’re already participating in Hacktoberfest through GitHub, and you’re registered as a hosted project with GitHub Sponsors, you’ll already see your project featuring on the campaign site. Any sponsors during the campaign will be counted toward the campaign and added to your monthly GitHub Sponsors contribution.
