Training, coaching, and workshops for community leaders
Published on November 25, 2021 by Benjamin Nickolls
We are offering a limited number of places to leaders of projects hosted by Open Source Collective on a series of coaching, training, and workshops designed to support you and your projects. To register your interest please complete this registration form.
Back in September, we described the ways in which Open Source Collective will be working to strengthen our relationships with and between the Collectives that we host, and to work toward solving common challenges that we face together.
Our plan started with community calls: a monthly space for members of the community to discuss their work, and a jumping-off point for deeper conversations and collaboration. If you missed out you'll find overviews and recordings here and we invite you to join our next call on 16th December.
The conversations that we've had to date have confirmed our suspicions: many of us are tackling the same problems, we're asking the same questions. It's time to start answering them. Last month I introduced Sumana Harihareswara, an independent open source consultant who specializes in supporting projects to answer questions like 'how do we bring new contributors?', 'what do we spend our money on?', and 'who gets to make decisions?'.
In order to kick-start the next phase of our plan, we will offer a limited number of places to leaders of projects hosted by Open Source Collective on a series of coaching, training, and workshops designed to work through these issues and to begin building a library of documentation.
Sessions will be built around the needs of the participants and include skillshare and co-working, hands-on training, and group discussions. The series will span 8 sessions over the course of 10-12 weeks beginning early 2022 and will be open for those who wish to dip into specific sessions or those who wish to participate across the whole series.

I'm one of the coordinators behind https://thegooddocsproject.dev. We are a bunch of volunteer tech writers developing best practice writing practices for open source projects. Our initial focus is on developing writing templates for key documentation types.
I suspect there are areas within your proposal which will be of interest to some of our writers. Would you be interested in a chat? Feel free to reach out at cameron.shorter AT gmail . C O M
