ABOUT
We look forward to hearing from Sophie Mok, Project Manager Urban Greening and Climate Adaptation, The Nature Conservancy. Sophie Mok will present on:
  • How TNC works together with cities to support their work around nature-based solutions through the Europe Urban Greening Program.
  • The case of Stuttgart: origin, functioning, opportunities and example projects from the ivy line of the Stuttgart Climate Innovation Fund*.
  • *With € 13 million, the Stuttgart Climate Innovation Fund claims to be the largest municipal innovation fund for the climate in Europe.

  • Furthermore, we look forward to hearing from Dr. Hyunjung Lee, City of Stuttgart, Office for Environmental Protection:
  • Dr. Lee will present on key aspects of her dissertation, titled "Increasing heat waves require human-biometeorological analyses on the planning-related potential to mitigate human heat stress within urban districts".
  • Since August 2016, Dr. Lee is working at the Department of Urban Climatology, Office of Environmental Protection, City of Stuttgart.
  • Dr. Lee is mainly concerned with current issues of planning-related urban climatology and adaptation strategies within cities on regional climate change as well as the evolution and evaluation of the local urban air quality situation. Related to urban climate, these issues refer to (i) the analysis of the characteristics of heat waves within cities, (ii) fundamentals, determination and application of human-related indices for the assessment of the thermal component of the urban climate, (iii) simulation-based analyses on urban climate effects of urban land use planning including the adaptation to the consequences of regional climate change for the urban population, (iv) simulation-based analyses for the planning-related potential, particularly of urban greening but also of street and building design, to reduce local human heat stress within urban quarters.
