About

Reigate & Redhill Community Learning Hub CIC, or RCLH for short, is a not-for-profit collaboration of a group of parents based in Surrey, UK, who home educate their children together. We meet regularly to host educational and fun meetups and learning opportunities of all kinds and descriptions.

We are a newly established organisation and are finding our feet. We desperately need your donations to help us get off the ground to host more things in Surrey and surrounding areas for home educated children and their families.

Why donate?
Not unlike most communities in the UK, Covid-19 has hit the home educated community hard. Our teenagers had terrible experiences with exam boards, having put so much effort in to get to where they were in their studies and then not being able to go ahead with their exams. Younger children have been isolated by lack of their usual groups happening due to restrictions. Many venues were confused by Council advice and unclear Government guidelines regarding home education and ended up closing their doors to us when we could have continued running.

Besides the current Covid situation, most highly experienced facilitators cost more than many parents can afford to pay on a regular basis, especially after so many families losing salaries in 2020, so your contributions towards payment of these facilitators would mean we could subsidise session costs to be more affordable to most families in our community.

We are fundraising to be able to run affordable, unique and engaging learning experiences and workshops for home educated children and teenagers in Surrey and surrounding areas. We aim to develop friendships and support each other whilst sharing our skills to educate the children within our community. The majority of our sessions involve parents and children, and we ensure a supportive, friendly, inclusive atmosphere by involving the community in deciding on important factors involved in the running of the sessions. It is this personal approach that means we can tailor the sessions to those attending and the children (and adults!) can get the most learning out of it that they choose to take from it.

With external funding we could organise really beneficial projects for the community at large - not just home educators. For example, we could organise the building of a treehouse by a group of older home educated children which could be used by children across the community. We would need to raise several thousand pounds to cover salary and resources for a 4 week project where 3 experienced craftsmen could safely facilitate an intensive course. The benefits of running this would be learning skills, gaining confidence in their abilities, giving the teenagers something to focus on and feel a sense of accomplishment after such a confidence-destroying year at such a crucial time in their development.

Your donations would also be supporting local community by creating contracts for self-employed individuals who have untapped expertise in certain subject areas. RCLH contracts out facilitators, covering their insurance, taking their bookings and arranging the hire of any venues/outdoor space used so that facilitators can focus on what they do best - sharing their knowledge and skills with the new generation!
