The Blackhouse Season 3 - 2023
Published on January 13, 2023 by The Blackhouse

Hello Blackhouse Family,

We have had a short break for Christmas and New Year but as of the 2nd week of January I have been back in the coordinators seat,  organizing our 3rd Season of the Blackhouse on Radio Access 106.1FM.
People really don't  realize the amount of organizing, coordinating & preparation  that goes on behind the scenes to producing an hour long radio show every week. That's  mainly one of the reasons I haven't commented much on here to date.
Besides just being a live radio show, we are a Youtube podcast and we have a very interactive social media presence promoting events from the Pan-African Global Diaspora communities in Aotearoa, as they come up.
Please keep a look out for posts about the Black Creatives Aotearoa 5th Birthday Ball coming up on the 21st January and get your tickets and the Miss African New Zealand 2023 competition in May 2023.  You don't want to miss that!!
Also keep and eye out for next Swahili Language Project run by Africa Connection Aotearoa in Wellington and Auckland.
Currently,  I am editing footage from our very last interview of 2022 with our very own Afro-Kiwi musical phenomenon ESTERE
As well as organizing with the team for this years series, that includes social media announcements, guest researching and booking, editing & graphics, and deciding on the relevant topics which we want to tackle in conversations.
Plus Re-branding our social media look, & learning to create amazing graphics on Canva. (We are never too old to learn new things).
So far I am very proud of the content and the contributions from people across our communities to the Blackhouse in our shows we have brought to you since 2020.
Please go over and check out our Youtube channel for the videos: @theblackhouseNZ.
Also you can check out the live Audio only broadcasts here: https://www.accessradio.org.nz/the-blackhouse.html

Our conversations & opinions and testimonies are an important legacy of being a part of the fabric of the Black community of Aotearoa.
The Blackhouse is about creating a safe space without pressure to perform, or conform to stereotypes and tropes that are often used by mainstream media to portray Black identity in Aotearoa.
We have demonstrated over the last 2 and a half years we have been running our little community program, through our conversations and interviews and that our connections to Africa and global Black identity are very diverse, very complex, very dynamic and also very authentic.
I hope you all are looking forward to Season 3 of The Blackhouse as much as we are looking forward to bringing it to you.
Tune in Saturdays 3pm - 4pm Access Radio Wellington 106.1FM

See you soon
