A long WPCC update for the shortest day of the year!
Published on December 22, 2022 by Sé Reed

Hello to our intrepid contributors, supporters, members, and generally interested parties!

As part of our membership in the Open Collective, the 501(c)3 that provides our fiscal sponsorship, we are asked to provide an end-of-the-year update and answer a few general questions about the WP Community Collective. This is that update!
  • What did your Collective accomplish during 2022?
We launched! That makes it sounds like a simple, one-step process, but of course, it was not.

Major accomplishments:
  1. Developed preliminary structure for the WPCC
  2. Applied and were approved for membership in the Open Collective Foundation
  3. Created and launched the website for thewpcommunitycollective.com
  4. Assessed the needs of the Accessibility Fellowship
  5. Determined a Fellowship pay structure with global parity
  6. Began assembling an Advisory Board
  7. Held multiple meetings with key community members for input and support
  8. Announced the WP Community Collective on a special episode of the WPwatercooler
  9. Sent out a press release announcing the WPCC to the WordPress media
  10. Received media coverage in the WP Tavern and many WordPress-centric newsletters and publications, such as MasterWP, and were featured on an episode of Torque Social Hour.
  • How did your Collective use any money raised?
We have not spent any of the money we have raised. Our costs have been minimal. Sé and Katie's company is currently sponsoring our domain registration and hosting and we didnt have to pay anyone to build our website. :)

We are currently directing all funds raised toward fully funding our Accessibility Fellowship as soon as possible.
  • What challenges did your Collective face during 2022?
Launching! Actually, launching wasn't that challenging, as we are a very capable and cohesive team, and operations are quite streamlined with only three people on our Founding Board.

Our major challenges likely lie ahead of us as fundraising is our primary task for 2023.
  • What did your Collective learn, change or grow?
We have been quite happy to learn that the WP Community is extremely supportive of our endeavor. We are honored and thrilled, really, that so many community members have put their trust in us already. We haven't changed much yet, but we are open to the evolution and growth that is surely ahead of us.
  • What are your plans for 2023?
Our singular focus for 2023 will be funding our Accessibility Fellowship and onboarding our inaugural Fellow. Once that is accomplished we will be focusing on building out our larger organizational structure, including bylaws and operations, and developing and formalizing an Advisory Board.

We have more interviews scheduled for January and we hope to have a very exciting announcement at the beginning of the year. We are just getting started!

A very, VERY special thank you to those of you who have supported us and the WP Community Collective without any hesitation. Your belief and trust in us is truly the most inspiring gift you could have given us! We can't wait to work with all of you and grow the WP Community Collective into a strong and vibrant support system for our beloved WordPress project and community.

As Courtney says: Let's fund contributors!

Happy Holidays to you all!!!!!! <3
