About

Our mission is to train 1 million AI/ML engineers worldwide by 2030 by expanding access to AI engineering education through workshops, hands-on learning, and a focus on core engineering principles that enable AI to be built, deployed, and scaled reliably in the real world.

Our collective is dedicated to expanding access to high-quality education in AI engineering globally by developing and maintaining "Machine Learning Systems: Principles and Practices of Engineering Artificially Intelligent Systems," an open-source textbook 📚 and developing hands-on learning platforms, ensuring that students gain first-hand experience building and deploying ML systems 👩‍💻

What began as a Harvard online course (during COVID-19) has evolved into a global movement, with tools like the Tiny🔥Torch (a minimalist ML framework) and TinyML kits 📦 empowering students to learn by building and engaging with “physical AI” systems that fit in the palm of their hand.

Our content teaches core engineering concepts in AI systems, including data collection, model design, optimization, and deployment, through a systems-first lens. Students learn systems thinking. Our materials are already being used in university courses, workshops, and self-guided programs worldwide.

These resources are already in use in university classrooms, online programs, and workshops worldwide, with a special focus on supporting educators and learners in underrepresented and under-resourced communities. Everyone deserves the opportunity to understand and develop intelligent AI systems.

We keep everything free, open-source, and globally inclusive.

The map below shows where we’ve partnered with institutions, hosted workshops, and delivered TinyML educational kits over the past few years—bringing hands-on AI engineering education to students worldwide. This initiative is powered by passionate and highly knowledgeable people volunteering their time outside their regular jobs. Your support will help us scale our efforts and build on our roadmap, enabling us to reach more classrooms, workshops, and learners across the globe. 🙏

Your support helps us:
  • Develop new learning units and kits
  • Sustain open infrastructure
  • Fund contributors and educators globally
  • Expand access across the Global South and beyond

By supporting our mission and joining this open-source education collective, you’re helping to democratize AI engineering education — one learner, one book chapter, and one lab at a time 📖.
