Sharing NVC and Sociocracy in Turkana, Kenya in border region towards South Sudan

About
Tusome Pamoja Initiative (TPI)
Building Peace Through the Power of Connection and Compassion
Tusome Pamoja Initiative (TPI) is a grassroots peacebuilding effort rooted in Turkana East Sub-County, strategically located at the crossroads of Turkana, East Pokot, and Samburu counties, a region often marked by intercommunal tension and conflict.
TPI envisions a thriving, peaceful society where every voice matters and every need is acknowledged. At the heart of our work is the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) approach, which we use as a transformative tool to foster empathy, mutual understanding, and sustainable community dialogue.
What sets TPI apart is our child-centred approach to peacebuilding. We create safe spaces for young people to become peace ambassadors in their schools and neighbourhoods through engaging, child-friendly activities. Our work emphasises nurturing emotional intelligence, conflict resolution skills, and a deep sense of shared humanity, especially in communities recovering from cycles of violence.
Tusome Pamoja means "Let's Re "Let's share," but our vision goes beyond reading. It's a way to grow, heal, and create lasting peace, one empathetic conversation at a time.

Healing Hearts and Nurturing Peace
Tusome Pamoja Initiative is dedicated to reaching traumatised children living in conflict-prone regions affected by cattle rustling and intercommunal violence. Often caught in the crossfire of historic tensions, these children are the heart of our mission.
Rooted in the compassionate philosophy of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), our work is guided by the belief that every child's story begins when we listen with empathy and respond with care. The core vision of NVC inspires us: "To express the eyes of love, not enmity, love that transcends division."
At Tu"ome Pamoja, we aim to:
- Equip children with NVC skills that promote emotional resilience, empathy, and peaceful conflict resolution.
- Create safe spaces through child-friendly peacebuilding activities where young voices can be heard and honoured.
- Support access to education for vulnerable and marginalised children.
- Advocate for children's children's children's rights in underserved communities affected by violence and instability.
We are planting the seeds of lasting peace by nurturing the next generation with compassion and understanding. Our work isn't just ending conflict; it's about imagining what's powerful when children are seen, heard, and empowered to lead with love.

A Call to Action
Support the Future of Peace in Northern Kenya
In the dry, rugged plains where Turkana, East Pokot, and Samburu counties meet, children are growing up amid the echoes of conflict. Cattle rustling, tribal clashes, and deep-rooted tensions have torn communities apart and left countless children traumatised, voiceless, and without the safety or opportunity they deserve.
Tusome Pamoja Initiative was born in this reality, born out of heartbreak and hope. We are building something different. Something transformative. Through the compassionate principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), Tusome Pamoja equips children with the tools to heal, lead, and become peacebuilders in their own right. We use child-friendly, heart-centred approaches to help children process trauma, express their needs peacefully, and reimagine a future not defined by violence, but by empathy, dignity, and connection.
Our mission is urgent. Our reach is growing. But we cannot do this alone. We call on you, donors, well-wishers, organisations, and kind-hearted individuals worldwide to walk this journey with us. Your support can:
Our mission is urgent. Our reach is growing. But we cannot do this alone. We call on you, donors, well-wishers, organisations, and kind-hearted individuals worldwide to walk this journey with us. Your support can:
- Provide NVC-based training to children, teachers, and youth leaders in conflict zones.
- Supply children with educational materials, emotional support, and safe spaces to learn and grow.
- Enable us to expand our programs to more schools and communities across Turkana East.
- Amplify children's voices in advocacy efforts that protect their rights and secure their future.
Your contribution, however small, is an act of peace.
It's a step toward a more compassionate world. It's a lifeline for a child. It's the beginning of healing for communities and for generations to come. Let love, not enmity, guide our actions. Together, we can help children survive, thrive, learn, and become the peacebuilders their communities desperately need.
Join us. Support Tusome Pamoja. Be part of this transformative change!
