About
Bike Collectives (aka Community Bike Projects, Community Bike Shops, Bike Kitchens, Community Bike Organizations, etc.) are usually non-profit, often volunteer-run, and focus on helping people access and repair bicycles. They often refurbish used bikes, teach workshops, lend out tools, and provide one-on-one help with repairs.
Bike!Bike! is an international, annual gathering organized by and for community bicycle projects. The conference is a space for participants from shops and related advocacy groups to converge in a different city each year over a 4 day period to have workshops and strengthen our social network.
BikeCollectives.org is an online resource for community bicycle projects. It includes:
- The Bike Collectives Wiki - Resources for & about community bike projects that anyone can edit or contribute to. Check out the wiki if you want to start a bike collective, find your local bike collective, and more! Create an account and edit the wiki to share what you know about community bike projects.
- The Bike Collectives Thinktank email list is a place for ongoing discussion among people involved with community bike organizations. It's a good place to ask questions, share information, and post relevant job listings. There is a lot of great information in the archives, too.
